Hello there. Today I’m doing some housekeeping and I just want everyone on this list (the SFIOP announcement list) to know that I have another list. It’s just called Chicken’s list. It’s politics, religion and my archive. It’s opinions and perspectives. It’s me, writing to you. I rarely post more than once a week. I put out voter guides, commentary on current events and the occasional perspective piece.

But two months ago I committed to putting out one “spotlight” a week. They go out on Tuesdays. They also go on my website: chickenjohn.com, but it’s fun to get them in your inbox.

Why keep two lists? Well, the SFIOP is more than me. And that’s a good thing. So we separate the announcements list (with events and SFIOP business) from my bullshit (which is mostly bullshit).

The evenings are usually organized and focused around a theme. And they can be very very funny. Especially so when told by people who aren’t show people. Somehow, it’s better. You can kinda tell when someone is a comic or whatever. The stories aren’t about breaking a bed in a hotel room or the time you met someone at a party and fucked them in the cab on the way home (everybody does that, right?). The stories are sublime. Hilarious. Risky. Unbelievable. And cute. It’s all surprisingly cute.

There are teeth too, for sure. Normalizing fetish, liquifying stigmas, empowering people who may have been beaten down by trauma or abuse… this is good work the world needs to do. Fuck, it’s work I need to do…

Who loves Dixie? Well I do. I’m in good company, Oprah does too.
