Agents of Chaos is the unauthorized (as in the authors would prefer that we get off their lawn!) book release party for Tales of the San Francisco Cacophony Society, a historical tome chronicling the beginnings and some of the antics of the people who made the Cacophony Society go. It is published by Last Gasp books.

Pre-show (7:30 – 9:00) Weird TV

Weird TV was a television program in the early 90’s made by Cacophonist and director Chuck Cirino. The short bursts of video brilliance were of many of the early Cacophony events and human interest stories.

The Show (9:00 – 10:30) Agents of Chaos

Includes live performance by:

  • The YES MEN! — The Yes Men are a group who use any means necessary to agree their way into the fortified compounds of commerce, and then smuggle out the stories of their undercover escapades to provide a public glimpse at the behind-the-scenes world of big business. The stories are often both shocking and hilarious.
  • Professor Lera Boraditsky
  • Polly Superstar and her herd of Sparkleponies
  • Keynote speaker: author Brian Doherty of Reason magazine
  • From Tourettes without Regrets and Snap Judgement: Jamie DeWolf
  • The Art of Bleeding, the smithereens of the Los Angeles Cacophony Society
  • Hosted by Ivan Stang, Church of the Sub-genius founder

Post-show (10:30 – 11:55) CIRCUS REDICKULESS

Circus REdickUless is a tour documentary by Phil Glau of a 1994 traveling punk rock circus led by (a very young) infamous San Francisco Showman Chicken John. The movie is a heartbreaking saga of disappointment and disillusion. Watch as the clowns get thinner as the movie progresses, see the people walk out of the shows, bear witness to the troupe eat each other alive. The film chronicles a cross country tour of them playing in parking lots, recyling centers, tiny bars and eventually getting menial jobs to go home. This was the first of 5 tours the circus did, spurring a world-wide resurgence of circus arts and culture. Many followed. They were first. Unbeleivable.
